Happy Everything!
So yesterday and today have been awesome! First off, yesterday, Nick made yummy fruit cake topped with dulce du leche. I realize a lot of you may be thinking "ewww, fruitcake is gross." But not when the official Wedig gourmet gets to work in the kitchen. Also, this thing wasn't soaked in rum for weeks, nor is it full of weirdly gelatanous green fruit. It's just pure yumminess, topped with gooey carmel sauce. But Nick has already done a very good job explaining everything his in LJ, so I won't repeat it.
Today, Maddie was restless and wanting to go out from the moment she woke up. (Probably had someone to do with not getting to leave the house at all yesterday or the day before, either.) So I gave my dad a call to see if he would be home and if he minded visitors. He informed me that if I didn't come over, he'd just have to track me down anyway, as my present had finally been obtained! So of course Maddie and I hopped in the car and were over there in no time.
And so I am now the proud owner of a brand shiny new Xbox 360 Elite (the one with the 120GB hard drive, basically the top of the line model for now.) We ooohed and aaahed over it for a bit, and just generally hung out for a while until it got close to dinner time.
I had decided I really wanted to eat out, and so Nick ended up meeting us in the Waterfront. Not only that, but Adam and Stacie agreed to come out as well. We all had a rather delicious meal at Rock Bottom, which is easily one of my favorite places to eat but at the same time one that I regularly forget about. Buffalo fajitas are yummy!
When we got home, Nick presented me with that elusive birthday present that he's been hiding now for over a month -- the game Bioshock. So far, it's just as cool as I expected it to be (and my expectations on this were high enough that I was willing to buy an Xbox 360 just for this one game), and I'm getting the controls a lot quicker than I expected. That seems like a silly comment about a game... but I am traditionally very horrible at platformers and first-person shooters, so if the controls are too complicated I tend to give up on things pretty quickly. (This is also a big reason why my usual favorite genres are puzzle, adventure, and RPGs -- much less manual dexterity involved.) Of course, I've got it set on easy and it's still a bit of a challenge. But I'm fascinated by the story and the graphics and so forth.
In fact, even though we have an HDTV, we don't get any HD stations via our satellite. And the Wii doesn't really provide a true HD experience. So this is the first thing I've gotten to experience with this sort of level of graphics, or even close! And I've never owned a computer with a high-powered graphics card, so I always have to set games to a lower level of detail. The detail is beautiful and eerie and totally makes the game -- I don't think it would have anywhere near the same effect if you didn't have the level of texture complementing the narrative tone.
Anyway, one last little bit of icing on my whole day. Nick had gotten me something for Valentine's Day, and then accidentally left the gift at work. I wasn't too concerned, in fact, I was surprised that he got anything since I knew he was planning on making me fruit cake. But he brought home my gift today -- six gourmet chocolate covered strawberries! Yum! They made for a delicious ending to an awesome day.
I am a spoiled rotten little girl! Or maybe I just have the most awesomest parents and the most wonderfullest husband in the world!
Or both?
